SEC. 07 / RESTORATION / ACP SHEET WORK

ACP Sheet Work in Mumbai

ACP (aluminium composite panel) sheet work installs a rainscreen cladding of aluminium-faced composite panels on a framed subgrid. It gives a building a clean modern facade and a drained, ventilated cavity behind, but it is a rainscreen, not a waterproofing system — the wall behind it still has to be sound.

SELECTION

When this is the right system — and when it is not

Waterproofing is a selection problem before it is an application problem. Most failures we are called to fix were the wrong system for the substrate, not a bad product.

When this is the right choice

  • Facade modernisation on commercial and corporate buildings
  • Cladding over a repaired and protected substrate
  • Where a ventilated rainscreen is wanted

When it is not

  • Cladding over a wet or distressed wall to hide it — the deterioration continues out of sight
  • Where fire-performance requirements have not been checked for the panel core
BUILD-UP

The system, layer by layer

Every layer has a job. The ones people cut to save money are usually the ones holding the rest together.

  1. L01Substrate repair and waterproofing

    Completed before cladding.

  2. L02Aluminium subframe

    Levelled and anchored.

  3. L03ACP panels

    Fixed with designed joints.

  4. L04Joint sealing

Weather-managed open or sealed joints per design.

SURFACE PREPARATION

Almost every failure starts here

Preparation produces nothing visible, costs real money, and is the first thing removed from a cheap quotation. It is also what decides whether the system lasts.

The substrate behind the cladding must be repaired, waterproofed and sound before anything is fixed to it. Anchor positions are checked for sound material and, where the specification requires, pull-out tested. Existing defects are recorded photographically before they are concealed.

METHOD

How we apply acp sheet work

Step by step, with the specifications each stage is held to.

  1. 01

Repair the wall before concealing it

Cladding over a damp or spalling wall hides deterioration that then continues out of sight, and the next person to discover it has to remove the cladding to reach it. Substrate repair and waterproofing come first.

  2. 02

    Verify the panel's fire classification

The core material's fire performance is confirmed against the building's requirements before procurement. This is a life-safety question and it is checked on documentation, not assumed from a product name.

  3. 03

    Test the anchors

Fixings anchored into sound substrate, with pull-out testing where the specification or the substrate condition requires it.

  4. 04

    Install and level the subframe

Aluminium subframe set out, levelled and anchored, maintaining the designed cavity behind the panels.

  5. 05

Fix the panels with designed joints

Panels fixed with the joint widths the design specifies, allowing for thermal movement of the aluminium.

  6. 06

    Manage water at the joints

Joints sealed or left open as a drained-and-ventilated rainscreen per the design. The two approaches are not interchangeable, and mixing them traps water in the cavity.

MATERIALS

What goes into the system

Panels
Aluminium composite panels with a documented fire classification appropriate to the building.
Subframe
Aluminium framing system anchored to sound substrate, maintaining the designed cavity.
Sealants
Where a sealed-joint design is specified, with movement capability matched to the panel's thermal movement.
QUALITY

What goes wrong, and what we check

These are the failure modes we are called in to fix on other people's work. The checkpoints on the right are how we avoid repeating them.

Common failure modes

  • Cladding over an unrepaired damp wall
  • Fire performance of the panel core not verified
  • Subframe anchored into unsound substrate

Our QC checkpoints

  • Substrate condition signed off before cladding
  • Panel fire classification documented
  • Anchor pull-out testing
QUESTIONS

ACP Sheet Work — questions we get asked

When is acp sheet work the wrong choice?

Cladding over a wet or distressed wall to hide it — the deterioration continues out of sight Where fire-performance requirements have not been checked for the panel core Selecting a system that does not match the substrate, the exposure and the movement it will see is the most expensive mistake in waterproofing, because the failure only shows up after everything above it has been built.

Why does acp sheet work fail when it is done badly?

In our experience the recurring causes are: cladding over an unrepaired damp wall; fire performance of the panel core not verified; subframe anchored into unsound substrate. None of these are material defects — they are execution defects, which is why the same product can last for years on one building and fail in a single monsoon on another.

How do I know the work was done properly?

Ask for evidence against these checkpoints: substrate condition signed off before cladding; panel fire classification documented; anchor pull-out testing. A contractor who cannot produce them is asking you to take execution quality on trust, on work that will be buried under a finish and impossible to inspect afterwards.

How long does acp sheet work last?

Panel and coating grade dependent. We would rather set that expectation honestly than quote a headline number, because the substrate condition and the standard of application matter more to the outcome than the product's own datasheet figure.

What does acp sheet work cost in Mumbai?

Cost depends on area, substrate condition, access, and how much preparation or structural repair is needed before the system can go on. We do not publish a rate per square foot, because a number quoted without seeing the building is either meaningless or misleading. The site inspection is free and produces an itemised scope you can compare against any other quotation.

NEXT STEP

Book the inspection. It costs nothing and it settles the argument.

An engineer visits, finds the actual source, and tells you what the building needs and why. You get a clear scope before any money is discussed.
