SURFACE PREPARATION

Almost every failure starts here

Preparation produces nothing visible, costs real money, and is the first thing removed from a cheap quotation. It is also what decides whether the system lasts.

Preparation here is diagnostic before it is physical. Cover depth, carbonation depth, chloride content and half-cell potential are measured to establish how far the deterioration extends beyond what is visible. Only then is the removal extent marked. Propping requirements are determined by a structural engineer before any concrete is removed from a loaded member.

METHOD

How we apply column & beam rcc work

Step by step, with the specifications each stage is held to.

  1. 01

    Diagnose before cutting

    Cover meter, carbonation depth by phenolphthalein indicator, chloride sampling and half-cell potential mapping. Visible spalling is the end of a process that started years earlier and extends well past the damaged area.

  2. 02

    Prop before removing

    Propping to the structural engineer's requirement, installed before any concrete comes off a loaded column or beam. This is a safety decision and it is not made by the site crew.

  3. 03

    Cut back fully behind the reinforcement

    Concrete is removed to sound material and fully behind the bars, with clear working space around them. Patching only the face leaves contaminated concrete behind the bar, which produces an incipient anode: new corrosion starts at the edge of the repair and the patch fails alongside the original damage.

  4. 04

    Clean the reinforcement to bright metal

    Rust removed by wire brushing or blasting until bright metal shows. Section loss is measured and reported for the engineer's decision on whether additional bars are required.

  5. 05

    Apply anti-corrosive coating

    Cleaned bars are coated within the product's stated time window, before flash rusting begins in Mumbai humidity.

  6. 06

    Rebuild in controlled lifts

    Bonding agent applied, then polymer-modified repair mortar or micro-concrete placed in lifts to the specified thickness, fully compacted around the reinforcement.

  7. 07

    Cure the repair

    Water-cured for 7 days minimum, so the repair develops its designed strength and its own resistance to the mechanism that caused the original failure.

  8. 08

    Apply anti-carbonation protection

    A protective anti-carbonation coating over the completed repair. Without it the carbonation front simply resumes and the repair becomes a temporary measure.
