Waterproofing for Hospitals & Healthcare Buildings

Hospital waterproofing is infection-control work that happens to involve membranes. Water ingress in a clinical building is a contamination risk, not just a maintenance issue, and the work itself must not generate dust or fumes that reach patient areas. Everything is phased around live wards.

CONSTRAINTS

What actually makes this difficult

The technical work overlaps with every other kind of building. The constraints are what differ, and they are what a contractor either understands or does not.

Infection control
Dust and airborne contamination are clinical risks. Containment is mandatory, not optional.
Continuous operation
Wards, theatres and ICUs cannot close. Work happens around them.
Low-odour requirement
Solvent fumes reaching a patient area are unacceptable.
Critical services
Leaks near electrical, medical gas or IT infrastructure are urgent by definition.
METHOD

How we work on these projects

  • Full containment and negative-pressure hoarding where required by your infection-control team.
  • Low-odour, low-VOC systems in and adjacent to clinical areas.
  • Work sequenced with your engineering and infection-control leads, not imposed on them.
  • Water tanks treated with certified potable-safe linings and documented flushing before return to service.

QUESTIONS

Hospitals & Healthcare — questions we get asked

How do you control dust near clinical areas?

Sealed hoarding, containment screens and, where infection control requires, negative pressure within the work zone. Cutting and hacking are done with dust extraction and outside peak clinical hours where possible.

Can work be done adjacent to an operating theatre?

Only with your infection-control team's written agreement and a containment plan they have approved. We do not proceed adjacent to a theatre on a verbal clearance.

What lining is used on hospital water tanks?

A certified potable-water-safe lining, with the certification handed over as part of the documentation, plus documented cure and flushing before the tank returns to service.

There is water near an electrical panel. How fast can you respond?

Water reaching electrical distribution is treated as an emergency. Isolate the affected circuit and call — response arrangements are confirmed directly.
