SURFACE PREPARATION

Almost every failure starts here

Preparation produces nothing visible, costs real money, and is the first thing removed from a cheap quotation. It is also what decides whether the system lasts.

The substrate must be clean, sound and genuinely dry. Cracks, open joints and defective pointing are repaired first, because a penetrating repellent lines pores — it does not bridge gaps. Surfaces are cleaned of dirt, biological growth and any existing coating that would prevent penetration.

METHOD

How we apply silane-siloxane water repellent treatment

Step by step, with the specifications each stage is held to.

  1. 01

    Repair everything first

    Cracks, open joints and defective pointing are made good before treatment. A repellent applied over a cracked wall produces a wall that still leaks through the cracks and now looks like it was treated.

  2. 02

    Clean the surface

    Dirt, algae and any existing film-forming coating removed, since these block penetration.

  3. 03

    Confirm the substrate is dry

    Applied to a genuinely dry surface. A damp substrate has water in the pores the treatment is meant to line, so it stays on the surface instead of penetrating.

  4. 04

    Flood-apply wet-on-wet

    Applied generously, wet-on-wet, to full saturation with visible run-down. Under-application produces a thin surface film rather than a lined pore structure, which is the difference between a treatment that works and one that looks like it was done.

  5. 05

    Measure the coverage rate

    Coverage is measured in litres per square metre against the specified rate, so application is verified by quantity rather than appearance — the cured treatment is invisible.

  6. 06

    Water-bead test after cure

    Once cured, water is sprayed on the surface to confirm beading. The same test tells you years later when reapplication is due.
