GLOSSARY / COATINGS

Polyurea

A spray-applied elastomeric coating produced by reacting two components at high temperature and pressure. It gels within seconds and builds 1.5 to 3 mm in a single seamless pass.

WHY IT MATTERS

On an actual building

Speed and seamlessness are what it is bought for — return to service within hours, and no laps on complex geometry. Its performance depends almost entirely on preparation and primer, not on the polyurea itself.

COMMONLY MISUNDERSTOOD

What we most often have to correct

That its toughness compensates for a poor substrate. It is one of the least forgiving systems available for contamination and moisture.
