GLOSSARY / COATINGS

Anti-Carbonation Coating

A coating with high resistance to carbon dioxide diffusion, applied to concrete to slow the advance of the carbonation front while still allowing water vapour out.

WHY IT MATTERS

On an actual building

After a concrete repair it is what stops the mechanism resuming. A repair without it addresses the damage and leaves the cause running.

COMMONLY MISUNDERSTOOD

What we most often have to correct

That ordinary exterior paint does the same. Carbon dioxide diffusion resistance is a specific measured property.
