GLOSSARY / TESTING

Adhesion Pull-Off Test

A test in which a dolly is bonded to the coating and pulled off under measured force, recording both the load and where the failure occurred.

WHY IT MATTERS

On an actual building

Where the failure occurs matters more than the number. Failure within the concrete means the bond exceeded the substrate's own strength; failure at the interface means the preparation or primer was inadequate.

COMMONLY MISUNDERSTOOD

What we most often have to correct

That a high number alone proves a good job. A high reading with an interface failure still indicates a bonding problem.
