Box Type Waterproofing in Mumbai

Box type waterproofing wraps a below-grade structure in a fully continuous barrier — under the raft, up every retaining wall, and sealed at the top — so the structure sits inside an unbroken tank. SURFACE PREPARATION

Almost every failure starts here

Preparation produces nothing visible, costs real money, and is the first thing removed from a cheap quotation. It is also what decides whether the system lasts.

A level PCC blinding is cast beneath the raft footprint, swept clean and free of protruding aggregate. Where the system is applied blind-side against shoring, the face is cleared of loose material and made as regular as conditions allow.

METHOD

How we apply box type waterproofing

Step by step, with the specifications each stage is held to.

  1. 01

    Plan the lap before laying anything

    The whole system stands or falls on the junction between the base membrane and the wall membrane. That lap is designed and agreed before the first sheet is laid, not resolved on site weeks later.

  2. 02

    Lay the base membrane with generous projection

    The barrier is laid across the full raft footprint at 1.2–4.0 mm depending on the system, with a generous edge left projecting for the later wall connection.

  3. 03

    Protect before steel

    A protection screed or board is laid before reinforcement arrives on the deck.

  4. 04

    Water stops at every construction joint

    Placed centrally within the section at the raft-to-wall kicker and each subsequent joint, secured so the pour cannot displace them.

  5. 05

    Lap the wall membrane onto the base

    The wall barrier is lapped and sealed onto the projecting base membrane, with the surfaces cleaned of site mud first. A lap made over dirt is the failure that defines a failed box.

  6. 06

    Photograph every lap and stop before burial

    A photographic record indexed by location, because after backfill nothing here can ever be inspected again.

  7. 07

    Protect, then backfill in layers

    Protection board fixed, then backfill placed in controlled layers rather than tipped against the membrane.

A contractor who cannot produce them is asking you to take execution quality on trust, on work that will be buried under a finish and impossible to inspect afterwards.

How long does box type waterproofing last?

Inaccessible for life once backfilled. Specified as a design-life system, which is why the lap detail matters more than the material choice. We would rather set that expectation honestly than quote a headline number, because the substrate condition and the standard of application matter more to the outcome than the product's own datasheet figure.
