Toilet Waterproofing in Mumbai
Toilet waterproofing seals the sunken slab, wall skirting and pipe penetrations of a WC area so water cannot migrate into the structure or the flat below. It is the same discipline as bathroom waterproofing, with particular attention to the soil pipe and floor trap penetrations, which are the most common leak paths.
When this is the right system — and when it is not
Waterproofing is a selection problem before it is an application problem. Most failures we are called to fix were the wrong system for the substrate, not a bad product.

Almost every failure starts here
Preparation produces nothing visible, costs real money, and is the first thing removed from a cheap quotation. It is also what decides whether the system lasts.
Identical discipline to a bathroom, with additional attention to the soil pipe. The sunk is cleared to the structural slab, laitance removed, cracks cut and filled, and fillets formed at every wall-to-floor junction. The annular space around the soil pipe and the floor trap is cleaned out entirely and re-grouted with non-shrink grout before coating.
How we apply toilet waterproofing
Step by step, with the specifications each stage is held to.

Check the stack first
Where a leak repeats in the same vertical line across floors, the soil stack or a shared penetration is the source, not the individual WC. Treating each toilet in turn will not resolve a riser fault.
- 02
Open and prepare the sunk
Existing fill removed, slab cleaned, cracks treated, junction fillets formed.
- 03
Seal the soil pipe and trap
The two penetrations that leak most often are collared individually and bonded to both the pipe and the slab.

Two cross coats
Cementitious or polyurethane coating applied in two cross-directional coats to a combined 1.5–2.0 mm.
- 05
Upturn to 300 mm
Carried up all enclosing walls a minimum of 300 mm above finished floor level.
- 06
Pond test and photograph
24–48 hour pond test with the ceiling below observed, and a photographic record of every penetration before filling.
- 07
Fill to fall and finish
Lightweight fill screeded to drain toward the trap, then tiling with waterproof grout.
What goes into the system
- Coating
- Two-component polymer-modified cementitious slurry or polyurethane liquid membrane.
- Collars
- Proprietary collars at the soil pipe and floor trap, bonded to pipe and slab.
- Reinforcement
- Alkali-resistant fabric at junctions and around penetrations.
- Grout
- Non-shrink cementitious grout to make good the annular space around penetrations before coating.

In our experience the recurring causes are: soil pipe penetration unsealed; inadequate upturn; substrate not primed. None of these are material defects — they are execution defects, which is why the same product can last for years on one building and fail in a single monsoon on another.
How do I know the work was done properly?
Ask for evidence against these checkpoints: pond test before filling; penetration photography. A contractor who cannot produce them is asking you to take execution quality on trust, on work that will be buried under a finish and impossible to inspect afterwards.
How long does toilet waterproofing last?
Inaccessible once tiled; designed to last the life of the finish. We would rather set that expectation honestly than quote a headline number, because the substrate condition and the standard of application matter more to the outcome than the product's own datasheet figure.
